In this episode I tell you the story of my journey to find a community of likeminded artists - it was not easy, but now I have a community that really helps me thrive and it’s a game changer.
Community is powerful - it can greatly impede or greatly propel you to where you want to go. When I was in art school, some of the community was very toxic and I had to shield myself from them. However, out in the world, I found that I didn’t thrive until I was able to find a community of other artists. Over the course of my life, I’ve had to find it in a couple of different locations and situations.
Community is crucial for artists because building an art business is not straightforward. You need both emotional and practical support to do it.
In my opinion, finding a community of likeminded artists at the same level of business is ideal. That way you can grow together. You want to have similar business philosophy, similar attitudes toward growth, openness to new ideas, and positivity.
It can take a while do find these qualities in a group of people, so don’t be discouraged! My best experience has been through joining coaching communities and making friends within them. The initial leader acts as a wonderful filter - if you like the coach, you are likely to like the other participants too. This is much quicker than meeting people randomly out in the world!
I have a group of friends that I initially met in a coaching community, but now we have our own separate group that meets every week. These people have a huge effect on my attitude and positivity and I cherish my relationships with them.
I also have my own coaching group that meets once a week called the Creative Abundance Circle. It’s designed to help you develop your business in a way that feels natural, draws on your innate strengths, and comes together in ease and flow. Within the small group, we have wonderful discussions every week that help us feel “washed clean” and excited to get going. It is mindset focused, but touches on all areas of marketing.
It’s a great one for combining with other art marketing courses because the mindset component of most courses tends to be pretty weak. Mindset is powerful - it can make or break your business efforts so it’s crucial to get support.

Also, I referred to Dr. Morgan and her podcast Lets get Vulnerable if you want to learn about relationship attachment styles. Here is an episode that gives you a great overview.
