Cornelius is anxious about meeting Emily's family at her nephew's birthday. He shockingly reveals Emily's sister Sophia stole from his charity, which he didn't report due to falling for Emily. Emily suspects Sophia has an untreated gambling addiction.

When her mom defends Sophia's actions, a livid Emily deduces her mom orchestrated the embezzlement scheme. She disowns her family, despite Cornelius' pleas for calm. Their secrets exposed, Emily no longer wants contact with her now distrusted relatives.
