Listen Later

In this episode, Ariel brings out some tools from her massage toolbox to help you with your self-care regime.

CV 17  point: In the center of the chest in the same area of the heart chakra, this point opens up feelings of compassion, caring and love for self or others.

Lung 1 points: This point is about 1 inch above the top of the breast tissue line and is called the "letting go" point. It is excellent to help release grief, sadness and can sometimes be helpful for asthma or tension in the chest due to anxiety.

CV 6 point: Sea of Energy. Located about an inch below the belly button, this point is helpful when you are feeling tired. It helps open up energy flow in the body and helps you feel energized.

Pericardium 4-6 points:  The points are great to treat nausea and motion sickness. Pregnant women can buy cloth-like "bracelets" with a white bead that they can place on one of these points to help with morning sickness. They are on the midline of the inside arm, about an inch above the wrist.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When we don’t exercise enough, like spending hours and hours on Zoom calls, watching too much TV or gaming, lymphatic fluid accumulates when it should be circulating. In the last few years, the back part of the body – especially in the glutes, hamstrings and lower back when we’re sitting – is where we have a lot of pain caused by this lymphatic fluid.
  • Tapping and finger circles are two of the easiest ways of massaging accupoints on your body. Tapping is not like tapping at a keyboard, use your fingertips to set up a vibration of kinetic energy through the tissue. You can also use the back of your fingertips or a flat or cupped hand. It’s a great way to wake up parts of the body.
  • Most pain in accupoints comes from either an overabundance of or a deficiency in chi, or lifeforce energy. When you’re massaging your body and you find an area that’s painful, that’s a high energy accumulation asking to get dispersed. You need to circle counter-clockwise. Empty spaces (that sometimes feel cold) need energy and respond to a more nurturing, slower touch. You can hold the areas, press on them gently or make clockwise circles.

BEST MOMENTS

“Muscles can be sore from too much activity or not enough activity.”
“Alternate taking hot and cold dips in pools, try to spend at least a minute or longer in each of those. I’m telling you it is invigorating. You can also take hot and cold showers. ”
“It’s pretty amazing how quickly pain can disperse, it’s literally like pushing a button and your muscles relax.”
