1. Stories are powerful.
Psalm 119:130 (NLT) The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.
Proverbs 17:27 (NLT) A truly wise person uses few words;
Eccl 9:17 (NLT) Better to hear the quiet words of a wise person than the shouts of a foolish king.
Proverbs 16:24 (NLT) Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
2. God has a story… learn to tell it well!
1 Peter 3:15-16 (NLT) And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way.
John 5:24 (NLT) "I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.
3. You Have a Story. Learn to Tell It Well!
Luke 5:12-13 (NLT) In one of the villages, Jesus met a man with an advanced case of leprosy. When the man saw Jesus, he bowed with his face to the ground, begging to be healed. "Lord," he said, "if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean." Jesus reached out and touched him. "I am willing," he said. "Be healed!" And instantly the leprosy disappeared.
Story Derailers
- Way too long story. We want to be brief.
- Fuzzy story. We want to be clear.
- Religionese story. We want to be simple.
- Superiority story. We want to be humble.
1 Cor 14:9 (NLT) If you speak to people in words they don't understand, how will they know what you are saying? You might as well be talking into empty space.
