My three-year-old daughter has a great habit of asking one question: why? Now, for a lot of people, and maybe even yourself, hearing “Why?”” all the time doesn’t sound so wonderful. That’s where we need to reframe the question “Why?” around our audience’s interests.
What does your audience want? That’s the easiest question to answer because then we start leveraging the power of the five why’s.
For every answer you give to the question, what does your audience want, ask yourself why. And then, ask a second why to the answer you gave to the first why question.
Repeat that process until you ask why five times to first original question. Each answer you give is another layer of understanding for the driving forces in your audience.
This exercise, the power of the five why’s, will give you greater clarity than ever before.
