Notes:
How do I become the “me” I want to be?
Certain behaviors impact all of our being, and if not disciplined they will derail other areas of our lives
Certain behaviors impact all of our being, and if not disciplined they will derail other areas of our lives
We can’t become better while at the same time harming ourselves and others
The discipline of purity helps us in all areas of our life because it’s choosing to love God and others over self-gratification, which is the very definition of “becoming the me we’re meant to be.”
PURITY:
Is NOT about sex being bad!
It’s about NOT exploiting people for self-gratification
Purity is simply choosing to love God and others over our desire for self-gratification
Two Sides of Purity:
- Avoiding HARM
- Pursuing HEALTH
“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor?
“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
“You have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a person with lust has already committed adultery with them in their heart.”
Objectifying people for sexual gratification is harmful!
Discipline what we:
-Allow our EYES to see
-Allow our MINDS to imagine
-Allow our BODIES to do
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.”
Discipline what we:
-Allow our EYES to see
-Allow our MINDS to imagine
-Allow our BODIES to do
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
What we:
-Allow our eyes to see
-Allow our minds to imagine
-Allow our bodies to do
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
The discipline of purity motived by love for Jesus and others…
Aligns our actions with our aim to become who we’re meant to be!
