The Prayer of Intercession

Listen Later

To Intercede means — To intervene on behalf of another, to act as a mediator in a dispute, or to plead with an authority to help someone.

So when it comes to prayer, an intercessor is someone who takes the place of another or who pleads another’s case before God.

1 Corinthians 14:15 KJV

What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also; I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

There is mental intercession which we do in our understanding as far as we can, but then there is spiritual intercession which we do in other tongues.

Romans 8:26-27 KJV

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

The Holy Spirit will take hold with you to pray out what needs to be prayed out, but if we don’t start praying then He has nothing to take hold with.

Ezekiel 22:30 KJV

And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.

Isaiah 66:8-9 KJV

Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child. Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the Lord: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.

John Wesley said, “It seems as if God can do nothing on the earth apart from prayer.”

James 5:16b

The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].

Galatians 4:19 ESV

19 my little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you!

The KJV actually says for whom I travail in prayer until Christ be formed in you…

When you have a burden to pray, pray all the way through.

You’ll know when you’ve prayed through when you hit “a note of victory.
