Have you ever wanted to say something at work but stopped and wondered whether you should? Or have you stayed silent, only to later wonder if that was the moment you should have spoken?
This is something I personally struggle with; and I am praying to God to give me discernment. The ability to know what the moment requires.
In this episode of The Praying Professional, we reflect on Ecclesiastes 3:7, which reminds us that there is “a time to be silent and a time to speak.”
Sometimes speaking requires courage. At other times, remaining silent requires wisdom and self-control. The challenge is discerning the difference.
Before responding in a meeting, conversation, or even by an e-mail, perhaps we can learn to pause and ask: Lord, is this a time to speak or a time to be silent?
Note that silence is not always wisdom, and speaking is not always courage. Sometimes speaking is the faithful response. Sometimes silence is. What we need is discernment to know the difference.
This week, let us ask God to help us honor Him with both our words and our silence.
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus' Name.
What do you do when you've been treated unfairly at work?
Maybe someone else received credit for your work. Maybe you were blamed for something that wasn't your fault, overlooked for an opportunity, or judged without anyone hearing your side of the story.
Being treated unfairly hurts; and while we may not be able to control what happened, we do have a choice in how we respond.
In this episode of The Praying Professional, we reflect on 1 Peter 2:19–20 and what it means to remain conscious of God when we experience unjust treatment.
Following Jesus doesn't require us to pretend that something wrong is right. There may be times when we need to speak up, correct inaccurate information, seek help, establish appropriate boundaries, or take appropriate action.
But even then, we can ask:
How can I respond in a way that honors Jesus Christ?
This week's prayer:
Lord, You see what happened. Show me how to respond in a way that honors You.
When you find yourself thinking, 'That's not fair,' remember the next question should be:
How will I respond?
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus' Name.
We have probably all encountered someone at work who is difficult to deal with.
But here's a harder question: what if sometimes we are the difficult person?
In this episode of The Praying Professional, we reflect on Romans 12:18 and its instruction: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
We can't control another person's attitude, words, or behavior, but we can ask God to examine our own.
Are our words, tone, assumptions, or reactions contributing to the conflict? And when someone else truly is behaving poorly, how can we pursue peace without ignoring the need for honest conversations or healthy boundaries?
This week's simple prayer is Lord, show me what depends on me.
May God give us the humility to examine ourselves, the grace to deal with difficult people, and the wisdom to know how to respond in a way that reflects Jesus Christ.
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus' Name.
What do you do when you are asked to do something at work that conflicts with your faith?
Maybe you are under pressure to go along because everyone does it. Maybe speaking up could make things uncomfortable. How can you remain faithful to God while still responding with wisdom and grace?
In the Season 2 premiere of The Praying Professional, we turn to Daniel 1:8 and Daniel's decision to remain faithful to God when his convictions were tested.
His example gives us a practical reminder for our own professional lives: conviction and grace.
We can be resolved in our faithfulness to God while remaining gracious in the way we respond to others.
A question to carry with you this week:
What has God made clear that you must not compromise in your professional life?
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus' Name.
What does success really look like for a follower of Jesus Christ?
In this special Labor Day episode and Season 1 finale of The Praying Professional, we reflect on Matthew 25:21 and the difference between professional achievement and faithfulness to God.
Promotions, titles, recognition, growth and results can all be meaningful, but they are not the ultimate measure of a life lived for Christ.
In the Bible verse above, Jesus commends the servant who is faithful with what has been entrusted to him. As we bring Season 1 together, we reflect on what it means to seek God first, pray continually, trust Him, work wholeheartedly, and remain faithful even when the results are not what we hoped for.
A question to carry with you:
What has God entrusted to me in this season, and how can I be faithful with it today?
Thank you for joining us throughout Season 1. By God's grace, Season 2 begins next Monday, as we turn to real situations professionals face and consider how God's Word teaches us to respond.
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus' Name.
What do you do when your professional plans don't work out the way you expected?
A missed promotion, a closed door, an opportunity that falls through, or an unexpected change can leave us asking, God, why did this happen?
In this episode of The Praying Professional, we reflect on Proverbs 3:5–6 and what it means to trust God even when we don't understand the path ahead.
We may not always understand what God is doing, but we can continue to trust Him and faithfully take the next step.
This week's reminder: We may not always understand the path, but we can trust the One who leads us.
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus' Name.
What does it mean to work with excellence as a follower of Jesus Christ?
In this episode of The Praying Professional, we reflect on Ecclesiastes 9:10 and its simple instruction: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”
Whether the task is big or small, visible or unnoticed, we are encouraged to approach the work in our hands faithfully and wholeheartedly.
This week, consider one simple question: Am I just getting it done... or am I doing it wholeheartedly?
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus' Name.
What does it really mean to lead with humility?
In this episode of The Praying Professional, we reflect on Philippians 2:3–5 and the call to have the mindset of Jesus Christ in the way we lead, serve and influence others.
We explore two simple but practical reminders for the workplace: humility listens, and humility serves.
Whether you lead an organization or country, manage a team, serve clients, or simply influence those around you, this episode encourages us to reflect Christ in the way we treat and serve others.
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus' Name.
Have you ever given your best at work and wondered, “Does anybody even notice?”
In this episode of The Praying Professional, we reflect on Colossians 3:23–24 and what changes when we remember that our ultimate audience is not our manager, our clients, or even our colleagues but Jesus Christ.
When recognition does not come and our efforts seem unseen, God sees. Even the ordinary parts of our work can become worship when we do them faithfully for Him.
This week’s prayer: “Lord Jesus, today I work for You. Help me to honor You in everything I do.”
A question to carry with you: Instead of asking, “Did they notice?” what would change if I asked, “Did I honor Christ?”
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus’ Name.
Deadlines, difficult conversations, uncertainty and heavy responsibilities are realities every professional faces. Yet God's promise remains the same: "Do not fear, for I am with you."
In this episode, we reflect on Isaiah 41:10 and discover that true peace is not found in the absence of pressure, but in the presence of God. Together, we'll learn how to trust His strength, rely on His promises and find confidence knowing that we never face our work alone.
Today's Scripture: Isaiah 41:10
This Week's Practice: Whenever you begin to feel overwhelmed, pause and pray: "Lord, thank You that You are with me. Strengthen me, help me, and uphold me today."
Reflection Question: Where do I need to trust God's presence more than my own strength this week?
Pray. Work. Thrive in Jesus' Name.
