We are captivated by stories of the ‘suddenly’ of the scriptures. We often think of God’s intervention as immediate and instant. But we forget the longer work of preparation. What took place before the suddenly. How can our faithfulness to what God asks us to do, which seems ordinary, be a place of Divine connection?
The seemingly long and boring obedience of our lives can be the perfect place and the right preparation for God to move. Both Elizabeth and Zechariah are committed and faithful to their faith and practice, despite seeing evidence of their prayers being answered. It’s in that long obedience that God shows up.
