Faithful to the End

The Priority of Serving

Listen Later

Serving in the church is an essential foundation. If we fail to see the importance and priority of serving, we fail to see the entire purpose for Jesus coming to serve, to serve by giving his life as a ransom. Defining service is important and the New Testament uses several words to explain service. Paul calls the believers in Galatia not to abuse their freedom in Christ, but instead to use it to serve one another. This is critical for us to see the priority of serving in the church. Jesus addresses this directly with his disciples, explaining that leadership begins, is fulfilled, in service. Greatness is displayed in serving. Status in God's Kingdom and in the church is gauged by selfless acts of compassionate service toward others. Believers must be committed to serving, just as Jesus graciously served in his life and in his death for us.

The church was not designed or created by humanity; it was designed and instituted by God to fulfill his plan for his followers on earth. It is paramount that we understand the nature of the church, the priorities that should characterize the church and the character of the individuals that compose the church. We must ask and understand the answer to the question: what is the church? Therefore, the church is a committed fellowship of believers in Jesus, who passionately live their lives together, striving to live and advance the magnificent truths of their Savior, who’s example perfectly establishes, directs & prioritizes their daily lives.
