Wednesday, the U.S. State Dept confirmed that Zalmay Khalilzad, US special representative on Afghan reconciliation, is having talks with the Taliban in Qatar. The day before, the Taliban claimed responsibility for a massive assault against an Afghan intelligence base in central Wardak province, killings up to 100 people.
