The Promise of God (Romans 4:13-25)
Sometimes we find it hard to trust in the promises of God. Since we’ve never seen Jesus nor witnessed his resurrection, sometimes we doubt whether his gospel promise is real. When life’s circumstances are challenging and other religions undermine our faith, it can be challenging to press on faith. In the midst of those doubts, Romans 4:13-25 gives us enormous encouragement as we consider Abraham’s unwavering trust in God’s promise. We’re assured that if we press on in faith, like Abraham did, we will not only be restored in right relationship with God, but assured of our eternal future. Because that future depends not on the strength of our faith, but on the power and faithfulness of the God who always keeps his promises.

Introduction: Faith in the promise?
The argument so far
1. Abraham was justified by faith in God’s promise not law-keeping (13-17a)
a. The Point: The promise came by faith not law (13)
b. The Reason: Else the promise is void (14-15)
c. The Purpose: Grace available to all (16-17a)
i. The promise rests on grace (16a)
ii. For all the nations (16b-17a)
2. Abraham’s example of faith in the God who brings life (17b-22)
3. Our faith in the same God who raised Christ (23-25)
Application
1. God can be trusted, even when his promise seems uncertain
2. God wants us to grow in faith like Abraham
3. God is still growing a multi-national family of believers
