It can be the pastor's task to sow doubts in the minds of those in his care. It requires wisdom. At every stage of experience we may become more entrenched to ideas and doctrines which our more fully matured brothers and sisters know well to be mistaken. In one way or another the tendency of the pastor's ministry is to leave the mind inquiring, "can it be as I have thought?" 

That is the task of the prophet Amos here.
