A first-person account of a traumatic night when a 16-year-old was left caring for his younger brother, Mikey, in a dangerous neighborhood. After their mother left for work, an Amber Alert reports a nearby home invasion. Later that night, Mikey screams, claiming a "monster" is in his room. The narrator looks under the bed and sees a massive creature with yellow, slit-pupiled eyes. He hides Mikey in the attic and calls 911, but the phone dies as they hear crashes, screams, and animalistic sounds from downstairs. When the police arrive, they attribute the damage and a discovered burglar’s pistol to the intruder. The narrator ultimately realizes that the entity under the bed was not malevolent, but a guardian protecting the family from harm.
