This is episode gets quite deep at times.  It’s moving, inspiring and at the same time heart breaking.  It’s the story of how a top-level athlete and an extraordinary human being survived two battles with cancer, what he learned and who he became along the way.

Josh Komen was the top 800-meter runner in New Zealand.  He was a young confident athlete in his prime, with a bright future ahead of him.  All that was about change when at 23 he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

In this episode Josh discusses the phases of grief he went through after his first and second diagnoses.   He recalls the excruciating physical suffering and mental anguish he endured and how he found the resilience to persevere in his darkest moments, even in the face of imminent death.  He walks us step by step down the most painful road he’d ever walked, to find a life, and a family he is grateful for on the other side.

You can learn more about Josh, his story and what he learned about what truly matters, in his inspiring book “The Wind at My Back.”
