The Qualified Savior
Luke 3:21-4:13
Luke gospel has no wasted space. Everything written by him is intentional including our text this morning. So while Jesus’ baptism, genealogy, and temptation seem random and unconnected nothing could be further from the truth. And that’s because the tie that binds these passages together is the repeated language of sonship. At his baptism, Jesus is proven to be the Son of God [ that is fully God ]. In his genealogy, Jesus is proven to be the Son of Adam [ that is fully man ]. And in His temptation, it’s these two truths which provide the context for why Jesus is qualified to be the sinner-saving, Satan-conquering Savior we need. For Luke, this is the last credential in the Savior’s Resume. It’s his culminating answer to the key question—Is Jesus qualified to get the job of salvation done? And with resounding answer Luke screams—‘Yes He is!’
