One man wanted to know what to do to inherit eternal life. Others thought they were shoe-ins for the kingdom of heaven because they’d done some good stuff. In this section of Mark’s Gospel, Jesus corrects errant assumptions about the nature of eternal life with God. It’s not about what one can do. Enjoying eternal life with God through Jesus takes a supernatural, miraculous work to transform rebellious idolaters into faith-filled disciples. Thankfully, God accomplishes that task through the work of Jesus.
