At the heart of Connections Count is a simple but powerful conviction: relationships matter more than resumes. This isn't a book about collecting contacts — it's about listening with intention, building trust, and treating every person as someone of value.

The central idea is this: people are not an interruption to leadership — they are the purpose of leadership. When we listen well, build trust before we need it, and help others recognize their own value, our influence becomes both stronger and more enduring.

The quality of our leadership is often revealed by the quality of our relationships. Before asking what a person can do, take time to understand who that person is.

Larry also shares a concept from the book called "The First 60 Seconds" — the lasting impact we make in the very first minute of meeting someone.
