"Self-Care" is Instagram's favorite buzzword and women all over are eating it up. And while I'm so happy to see so many people interested in the concept; I think the majority of us are a bit misguided in knowing what this term actually means.
Apparently the term has been around for hundreds of years; not touting the same meaning it holds today. (I'll leave you to that research; but basically self-care had a derogatory meaning) I started noticing the term on my insta feed in 2017 and right from jump I had a non-popular opinion: that what y’all think is self-care isn't really self-care!
There's Self-Care, and then there's Self-Maintenance. Most of what we see on Instagram is Self-Maintenance; incorrectly being labeled as Self-Care. Self-Care allows us to do life correctly.
It's important to know the difference and make time for both - because only one of the two actually perpetuates your growth. As a society, we need to realize that what's involved in self-care is more substantial than we initially regard it to be.
Do you agree?
