Excerpt of the Podcast:
John Kremer: “I can sort of argue that suffering, you're telling me that suffering happens because I buy into it in a sense. I take ownership of it. But in some sense, there are things coming at me from the outside, not necessarily up from the thoughts, at least that's the way it feels. So that somebody's punching me in the face, I'm going, "Okay, that's not just a thought," and I'm suffering from it.”
Dr Louis Koster: “What is suffering? This is all because we identify ourselves with our feelings, and that is where the issue is. You are not your feelings. You are not what you are experiencing. The true you is what makes you aware of having feelings, and is beyond experience. It is what has you be aware that this awareness itself, so the salvation is found in knowing what you truly are. And the moment that you stop identifying yourself with whatever comes up in your consciousness, including your feelings and your experiences, you have a more accurate perspective of both yourself and life. So what I'm saying is that in every experience you are, but you are not your experience.”
“In every feeling you are, but you are not your feelings. And that's where you find your freedom, by knowing what is real. So the real you has never suffered. Even in the midst of all drama and discomfort that you might have been experiencing, that was an experience, but that's not what you are.”
Dr Louis Koster, distinguished humanitarian, management consultant, and published author served for over ten years as a medical doctor for “Doctors Without Borders” and other humanitarian organizations in trouble spots across the globe. For his humanitarian efforts, Dr. Koster has received numerous awards and has appeared on radio, television, and news shows.
