Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.
Why can dating feel so much easier when you’re anywhere but home?
In this episode of The Realistic Romantic, Erin calls in with a dating dilemma. She’s been single-ish for about three years after a six-year relationship, and while dating at home in San Antonio has slowed down, dating while traveling feels surprisingly easy.
So what changes when she leaves home?
At first, the obvious answer seems like location. Maybe she just hasn’t found the right dating pool.
But as we dig deeper, another possibility emerges: Dating on vacation comes with a built-in expiration date. You can have fun, meet someone new, and explore a connection without necessarily having to answer the harder questions about where it’s going.
And that might make it easier to avoid something Erin admits she struggles with: vulnerability.
We talk about the difference between being adventurous and being emotionally vulnerable, how people pleasing can keep you from communicating what you actually want, and why uncertainty about your own future can make serious dating even harder.
By the end, the question isn’t only why dating feels easier on vacation.
It’s whether dating should even be the priority right now.
In This Episode
• Why dating can feel easier when you’re traveling
• How an expiration date can take the pressure off dating
• Whether your city or dating pool is actually the problem
• The connection between vacation dating and emotional vulnerability
• How people pleasing can show up in relationships
• Getting clearer about your values and the life you want
• Finding someone who shares your sense of adventure
• When dating for fun becomes a distraction
• Why being single can actually be an advantage
• Building your next chapter before finding someone to share it with

Have you ever looked at your dating apps and thought, “Maybe I just need to move?”
Your location absolutely can affect your dating life. It determines who’s around you, the size of your dating pool, local dating culture, relationship goals, competition, and even how easy it is to actually go on a date.
But moving doesn’t automatically fix your dating problems.
In this episode of The Realistic Romantic, Drew asks a bigger question: Is the problem actually your city, or is it you?
Plus, Drew answers a Dear Drew about getting from the first date to the second without feeling like you’re chasing.

• How your city affects your dating pool
• Drew’s experience dating in San Antonio vs. Miami
• The best states for singles in 2026
• Dating opportunity vs. relationship opportunity
• How local culture affects dating and relationships
• Signs your city might actually be limiting your dating life

In this episode of The Realistic Romantic, Drew breaks down the difference between the features you were born with and the appearance you choose to present, why intentionality can make you more attractive, and how to care about appearance without becoming shallow.
Plus, we're talking about pheromone-maxxing, the internet trend where some men are skipping showers because they think their natural scent will make them more attractive.

Dating hasn't always looked like this.
Over the last 100 years, American dating has gone from calling cards and milkshake dates to personal ads, nightclubs, dating apps, swiping, and algorithms.
We have more choice, access, information, and control over our love lives than ever before. So why does modern dating feel so exhausting?
In this episode of The Realistic Romantic, Drew takes us through 100 years of dating history to understand how we got here and why every generation eventually rebelled against the dating rules that came before it.
Plus, we're talking about the rise of IRL singles events and "soft socializing." Could meeting strangers in real life be the next dating rebellion?
In This Episode
• 100 years of American dating history
• How the modern first date was born
• Intentional dating vs. optimized dating
• The rise of IRL singles events and "soft socializing"
• How to make dating feel more fun again

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.
Dating apps have convinced us that compatibility means finding someone who likes all the same things we do.
The same music. The same restaurants. The same travel style. The same hobbies.
But here's the problem...Your favorite TV show has never saved a relationship.
In this episode of The Realistic Romantic, Drew challenges one of the biggest misconceptions in modern dating: that your ideal partner should be just like you.
Shared interests might help you plan a first date, but they won't help you navigate conflict, finances, family, commitment, or the future you want to build together. Instead, Drew explores why shared values are a much stronger predictor of long-term compatibility and introduces a practical framework for identifying the values that actually shape a relationship.
Because shared interests start conversations. Shared values build relationships.
In This Episode
• Why dating apps encourage us to prioritize the wrong things
• The difference between shared interests and shared values
• Why compatibility isn't the same as sameness
• How your values shape the life you build with a partner
• Better questions to ask on a first date

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.
Everyone says it's impossible to meet people in real life anymore.
But what if the problem isn't dating apps... it's that we've all become experts at looking unavailable?
In this episode of The Realistic Romantic, Drew explores the rise of "chalant dating" and why modern dating culture has convinced us that looking busy, emotionally detached, and effortlessly cool is somehow attractive.
From staring at our phones in coffee shops to wearing headphones everywhere we go, we've unintentionally built walls that keep genuine connection out. Drew shares why the people who want love the most are often the hardest people to approach, along with five practical ways to become more approachable without changing your personality.
If you're tired of dating apps, struggling to meet people organically, or wondering why no one ever makes the first move, this episode might completely change how you think about attraction.
Because maybe you don't need to become more attractive.
Maybe you just need to become a little more chalant.
In This Episode
• What "chalant dating" is and why it's replacing nonchalance
• How looking cool became the same as looking unavailable
• Why phones have become social camouflage
• The hidden ways you're making yourself harder to approach
• Five practical ways to become more approachable in everyday life

The moment you get engaged, everyone suddenly has an opinion.
Your parents have thoughts about the guest list. Your friends have opinions on the venue. Your aunt you've met twice somehow cares deeply about the seating chart.
But who is your wedding actually for?
This week on The Realistic Romantic, Drew sits down with his longtime friend Jess to unpack the reality of wedding planning and why one of the happiest moments in a relationship can quickly become one of the most stressful.
Together they answer an important queston: Are you spending more time preparing for your wedding than your marriage?
Whether you're engaged, dating, planning a wedding, or simply wondering how to build a healthier relationship, this episode is a reminder that a wedding lasts one day, but a marriage lasts a lifetime.
