Another gripping novel in the series set during the Napoleonic Wars. Matthew Hawkwood, ex-army Rifleman and now one of Bow Street's Principal Officers, is assigned to solve the murder of a prostitute horribly tortured and tossed into an open grave. He discovers an apparent link with similar murders, but his superior, Chief Magistrate James Read, is forced by secret political pressure to drop the investigation. At the risk of his own life and that of his woman, Hawkwood and his allies race to capture the fleeing murderer in a ferocious conclusion.
This series will appeal to anyone who loves meticulously researched historical novels full of action and adventure. Bring on the next one!
