Set in the tranquil English countryside, the story unfolds at the Red House, the residence of the affable yet enigmatic Mark Ablett. Mark hosts a house party with several guests, including his cousin and secretary, Matthew Cayley. The serenity is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of Mark's estranged brother, Robert, from Australia. Shortly after, a gunshot is heard, and Robert is found dead in the study.
