Chopped it up with an NFL on FOX reporter about their journey through the journalism world. From his formal education, to writing bylines for ESPN, to all the traveling, he tells everything about his journey. Originally interested in people, Ben eventually gravitated to storytelling where he would find his passion for telling narratives within sports.

Apart from the media, we talked about his cultural podcast, Bridge2Self, and about the importance of global awareness and cultural sensitivity. As you’ll find out, it’s so much bigger than black and white.

Looking back, this was an amazing conversation! MuyMuy opens up about his “why” in film — giving his community an authentic voice. One that both celebrates and critiques the standards that come with being Filipino. He pulls inspiration from a variety of sources, but all have the shared notion of culturally important films. Devin also elaborates on his notion of the “marketplace of ideas,” AKA the free range of media influencers who compete for clicks/reads/listens. An element that contrasts a consumer’s yearning for factual, fluff-free news or echo chambers to fortify their opinion. Both speakers note how cuts to public spending are being done to antagonize educational institutions like universities and public media. At the end, we our compare food groups to media consumption: highlighting the fact that reading from accredited sources should be your fruits and veggies, with politically charged/partisan news outlets playing a smaller role.
