Episode at a Glance

The halls of The Residence on Netflix are once again dusted with chaos, spilled secrets, and a little something stronger than taters. “The Last of Sheila” opens with Cordelia Cupp deep in nostalgia mode on a windswept beach, birdwatching with her nephew and dishing out a poignant origin story: the legendary Strawberry Sock Caper—proof our quirky detective's obsession goes way back.

But this isn’t all sweet memories! Back at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the focus is firmly on scene-stealing butler Sheila, the vodka-loving agent of chaos whose unreliable version of the night A.B. Wynter died is so mangled it deserves its own mystery novel. From empty state dinner seats (thanks to disastrous planning by Lilly Schumacher and St. Pierre) to a forbidden friendship with the ex-First Lady, Sheila proves that one bad seating chart can topple more than a social secretary—it can topple alibis.

Here’s what’s poppin’ in the fryer:

  • 🍓 Strawberry Sock Origins: Flashbacks show Cordelia’s childhood drive to solve mysteries, nabbing her sister’s missing sock from the neighbor’s dog—and inspiring a new generation of family detectives. This backstory is more than cute: it’s the key to Cordelia’s relentless quest for the truth.
  • 🍸 Sheila’s Slippery Story: Sheila’s tales spiral as fast as her vodka tolerance—upstairs to deliver drinks, down for a forgotten glass, ending with her guzzling the gift herself and leaving Nan Cox parched. She blunders into being a state dinner seat-filler, violates every White House norm, and ends up potentially crossing paths with the killer… if only she were sober enough to remember.
  • 🔥 Seating Chart Smackdowns: Lilly Schumacher’s seat-switching shenanigans leave a trail of empty chairs, switching stories, and major trust issues. If she’ll lie about a place card, what else is she hiding? Meanwhile, St. Pierre stirs the pot from afar. The resulting chaos means everyone points fingers, especially at Lilly—Cordelia is onto her, and it’s not looking good.
  • đź’¸ Show Me the Money (And the Motive): A heated fight erupts about moving the state dinner and adding a fountain "from another pile of money." We get an early whiff that Lilly’s spending—and her dismissal of oversight—runs deeper (and more dangerous) than anyone knew.
  • 🩸 Secrets Under Paint: Cordelia’s true-crime spidey sense leads her to a "fake" renovation room—really just a ruse to keep guests away, a trick Jackie O herself used back in the day. But the kicker: she scrapes paint and uncovers blood hidden on the baseboard. A.B. was murdered in this room, not the game room as everyone assumed.
  • ⏰ Timeline Tangles & the Game-Changing Autopsy: Thanks to Ann Dodge, the unflappable medical examiner, Cordelia cracks the case wide open—A.B. was dead 30 minutes before his body turned up, bludgeoned, poisoned, and with his wrists sliced post-mortem. His body was moved, and the staff’s scramble to cover tracks is more tangled than a hash brown at brunch.
  • 🔍 Unreliable Narrators, Midnight Binoculars: The episode closes with Cordelia staring across the street through binoculars… only to find someone staring right back. Goosebumps, anyone?
Totty Takeaways

This was peak Shondaland: slippery stories, kitchen chaos, and a murder scene hiding in plain sight. With Sheila’s drunken antics and Cordelia’s laser-focus, the suspects are multiplying faster than tots on a party platter. The hunt for the killer—and for the real story—is officially ON.
