The Revelation was intended to be understood — even through its imagery! And it was intended to be understood in light of the entirety of God’s revealed words in all of Scripture. But the Revelation to John was also intended as a prophecy to benefit the church under attack. It was intended to strengthen and encourage, but also to call the church to account — to awaken repentance. But above all, the Revelation was intended to exalt Jesus Christ.
