Hello there! We’re putting the final touches on Episode 2. Have you ever heard of a numbered charade? You may have seen them around as a generic riddle. The riddle is made of one large word to guess along with smaller words that reuse the large word’s letters. For example, take the word STEAK. Its letters have numbers 1 through 5. 1 would be S, 2 would be T and so on. In addition to the actual riddle about steak, you might also get riddles about TEAK (for example, 2 3 4 5 is a rare wood) and SAKE (For heaven’s 2 4 5 3). If you can’t guess the main word outright, riddles about the smaller words can add to the fun. The source of this riddle is a SPRAWLING 1879 collection of all sorts of word games. Join our upcoming podcast (optionally at anchor.fm/riddles) and we’ll have the link for it. If you like you can write down the main word for this riddle ahead of time (123456789) as well as 123459, 867, 1678, 12679, and 93451.
