Hello and welcome to AI Insights. Today we’re talking about a San Francisco start-up with a bold mission: automating white-collar work. The company is called Mechanize, and its founders—Matthew Barnett, Tamay Besiroglu and Ege Erdil—say they want to replace jobs “as fast as possible.”

A few years ago, tech leaders insisted AI was just a helpful assistant, designed to augment human labor. Now AI systems can write software, draft detailed research reports and even solve complex math and science problems. New AI “agents” can carry out long sequences of tasks and check their own work, almost like a human would.

At a recent Mechanize event, Tamay Besiroglu put it bluntly: “Our goal is to fully automate work. We want to get to a fully automated economy, and make that happen as fast as possible.”
