On Easter Sunday, the resurrected Jesus makes a special appearance to two of his disciples, whose spirits and hopes had been dashed by his death on the cross.  They had hoped for the political deliverance of their nation, but Jesus helps them see from the Scriptures that his suffering and death was not a tragic turn of events, but a fulfillment of prophecies from ages past that rescues and redeems not only Israel, but all of mankind from their sins.
