    Episode #64: Welcome to the Roman Gabriel Show. My guest is Derek Maltz, the former acting administrator of the Drug Enforcement Agency. For many years now Derek has been at the forefront of calling for greater awareness and education about the number one

    killer of our children in America, the deadly poison fentanyl. Since 2020 our country has lost over a half million people, and many of them children. Derek has dedicated his life to working with Angel parents across the country who have lost their children to accidental fentanyl poisoning. While assisting them in proactively getting the message out through opioid legislation, school assembly programs, and parental support resources.

    Derek comes from a law enforcement family and is widely recognized as a national leader in the fight against fentanyl and global drug trafficking. He frequently appears in U.S. media and testifies before Congress to raise awareness on critical public safety threats.

    Derek is now the senior vice president of global business growth and strategy at Penlink, a digital intelligence company. His leadership in that role was the latest chapter in a distinguished 28-year federal career, including service as Special Agent in Charge of the DEA's Special Operations Division and as Chief of the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force.

She lost her 15-year-old son Weston who passed away after taking a "poison pill" containing fentanyl. 180 people a day in America are dying from Fentanyl Poisoning. Its the # 1 killer of 18-45 year olds in our country. The majority are accidental deaths, since 2021 the death of children 5 to 14 has risen by 1400%. I sat down with Anne who is now a powerful speaker all over the country advocating for parents nationwide about the dangers of Fentanyl, and the importance of understanding that it can happen to any parent or child no matter who you are. Her speech at the RNC brought a national audience to tears. She is now helping families and young people become more aware of this dangerous and deadly poison. Ron was a part of three national championships at Nebraska, and he coached more than 40 academic all-conference players and nearly 40 players that went on to professional careers under the great Hall of Fame Head Coach Tom Osborne. He tutored future NFL running backs Rex Burkhead and Ameer Abdullah, who rank second and sixth, respectively, on NU's all-time rushing list. In 1978 he led the Trojans to the College Football National Championship, and a Rose Bowl Victory over Ohio State in 1980. He was known for his poise and as a winner, finishing his college career with a 22-1-1 record, holding the NCAA mark for the lowest interception percentage in a career at 2.3% (13 interceptions in 561 attempts) and the Pac-10 record of 143 straight passes without an interception. Paul and I both hale from Southern California. We connected through my Sold Out Youth Foundation Super Bowl Celebration Event https://soldouttv.com/events/. I was a fan, and now consider him a great friend. In this episode we talked about his new book "Though The Tunnel", all about his journey to success, and discussed how the book can impact all those currently on their own journey in life, business, and family.
