Helewise and Josse do it again!
In this latest novel in the Hawkenlye series we meet some well developed and well loved characters again, Josse, Helewise, Caliste etc but we also get to know more about those who have been on the periphery of the earlier novels, the family members, the sheriff and the King. I am glad that Alys Clare has continued the series after Helewise left the Abbey and Caliste took over her role as Abbess. We get some insight into the harrowing effects of the conflict between Church and State on the common people as the mystery unfolds both in England and in Cathar country. I really admire the way that the author has done her research and deftly used it to enrich her plot and character development. The ending was a surprise that made sense of the prologue and also laid the foundation for further Hawkenlye mysteries!
Five Stars
I've loved the whole series!
Not on a par with the other titles in the series.
This book does not measure up the others in the series. I am about half way through and am having a hard time forcing myself to continue. I have read all the other books in the series and have found them to be an easy read. This story seems forced and I am having a hard time caring about the characters. The whole clan is friendly with the sheriff, but they think he will hang someone for defending Rosamund? I don't think so.
Could not put it down
I read it all the way through in one sitting, it was so good, I was afraid to put it down for fear of missing something. I have read all the books in this series. They are very well written, historically accurate, and have good character development. When I read the books in this series I feel transported back in time to a place I know with people I've come to love, like, admire, and get frustrated with at times. I can't wait for the next installment.
Evamay.
These are excellent books by Alys Clare and I thoroughly recommend them. The characters are wonderful and the storyline believable.
