In early July 1947, an unidentified object fell from the sky onto a ranch in a remote area of the state of New Mexico near the small town of Roswell.
The ranch owner, William Brazel, discovered the wreckage while he was out inspecting the sheep pastures, and later described what he saw as “a large area of shiny debris consisting of rubber strips, foil, coarse paper, and sticks.”
William Brazel's ranch had no telephone, so it took a couple of days before he discreetly told the Roswell sheriff that he might have found one of those “flying saucers” he had been hearing about.
