This week Pastor Derek starts our new Sermon Series, Taming the Tongue. Scripture teaches us that taming the tongue is a discipleship issue as what comes from our tongue originates from our hearts. When we control what comes out of our mouths we will eventually change the states of our hearts.

Any time the scripture says "teach us", it means this is something we can't gain on our own. We try to remove bad habits from our lives and we can't get there. We try make good decisions and we can't get there. In this week's message, we join with our brothers and sisters across the generations and pray, "teach me to count our days..."

The local church is the movement of a global community of faith, charged with communicating and continuing the ministry and the message of Jesus the Christ. There is no institution in the world that serves people like the local church. Not one institution gives people a road map for the love, character and nature of God, like the local Church. In this week's sermon, we experience Jesus with the woman at the well. Her life is in shambles and the last thing she needs is to hear religious platitudes. In her moment with Jesus, she is seen, "Everything I have ever done!", and embraced. This week, Reverend Porter will walk us into this beautiful encounter and help us understand how it shows us that as disciples of Jesus, we can always be people who are rooted in, "It will get better".
