The safety of CPF patrollers

As we kick off the new year, law enforcement agencies are wrapping up their festive season operations and compiling the final stats. But the year 2023 ended on a somber note for law enforcers, as we saw the killing of police officers and a CPF patroller in the western cape region.

While Minister Cele has given members of the SAPS a right to shoot-to-kill, CPF patrollers do not often enjoy the same privilege. They’re often at the mercy of armed robbers, with little means to defend themselves.

What measures are in place to ensure the safety of CPF patrollers during their shifts; are they provided with any specific training for dealing with potentially dangerous situations and are there any specific areas or situations where CPF patrollers are at higher risk of facing safety threats?
