When Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey, the crowds praised Him as their King and Messiah. But they did not really understand who Jesus was, or what He came to offer them. They thought they needed deliverance from their earthly enemies; they really needed salvation from their sin. Their real problem was not the Roman government; it was the wickedness in their own hearts. That is our problem, as well, and that is why Jesus came. He offers forgiveness and salvation on the basis of His death and resurrection to everyone who believes in Him.
