The Savior’s Mission

Luke 5:1-32

Last week we saw the ‘raw data’ of Jesus’ manifesto as He identified Himself as the Isaiah 61 Spirit-anointed Servant who “must preach the good news of the kingdom of God” to others. Therefore, having laid out Jesus’ manifesto, Luke now records Jesus acting it out. A miraculous catch of fish, a leper cleansed, a paralytic healed, and a tax collector who follows all show us the forward march of God’s good news kingdom as King Jesus systematically dismantles Satan’s dark kingdom. The tie that binds it all together is the golden thread of authority, as Jesus’ mission of salvation is pursued through His powerful word.
