The Savior’s Offense
Luke 5:33-6:11
Does Jesus offend you? Or to word this question another way we can ask, “Do you find Jesus to be offensive? Whether due to His actions or perhaps His words, for many people the answer is ‘yes’. And if you can say ‘yes’ to these questions, then you are perfectly prepared to grasp the context of our verses before us. Luke reveals that those offended by Jesus are offended because they refuse to accept the implications of His manifesto and mission. On repeat they are catching the drift that instead of Jesus fitting their mold of what the Savior should be, Jesus is exploding their mold. And because Jesus refuses to be squeezed into man-made religious molds, many find Him offensive. And it’s this point right here that makes this text more pertinent than we may realize because the religious mentality found in our text this morning is the same mentality that permeates people’s thinking today.
