In this very special episode, we celebrate the life and career of John Sainty – a man whose influence reached far beyond the clubs he played for and coached.
From his early days as a player at Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, and Aldershot, to coaching roles at Manchester City, Burnley, Chester, and of course Stockport County, John left his mark on English football.
Joining us to share memories and stories are:
🏟️ Mike Flynn, County legend
📝 Phil Brennan, former County media man
📚 Neil Vacher, Bournemouth FC historian and author of John’s autobiography
❤️ Lindsay Sainty, John’s widow
We hear about his belief that “the Spurs way was the way”, and his work with players like:
Ted McDougall
John Bond
Scott McDonald
Justin & John Fashanu
Theo Walcott
Adam Lallana
Gareth Bale
…and how he was shaped by managers such as Bill Nicholson.
🙏 Rest in peace, John.
