Lux Radio Theater #197, "The Scarlet Pimpernel,"
In the midst of the French Revolution's Reign of Terror, as noble heads fall daily to the guillotine in 1793 Paris, a mysterious Englishman works to save condemned aristocrats from certain death. Known only as the Scarlet Pimpernel and identified solely by the mark of a crimson flower, this master of disguise moves through the city undetected, assuming the roles of priests, old hags, and common peddlers. Sir Percy Blakeney, aided by the Frenchman Armand Saint-Just, orchestrates daring rescues right under the noses of revolutionary guards. When the Comte de Tournay and his family face execution, the Scarlet Pimpernel devises an elaborate plan involving a staged accident and a hidden wagon.
But danger intensifies when Chauvelin, ambassador of the French Republic, arrives from London with one mission: to unmask and capture the elusive hero. As Percy prepares to return to England and his wife Marguerite, the stakes grow higher. The revolutionaries are determined to end the Scarlet Pimpernel's interference, while Percy risks everything to continue his perilous work saving innocent lives from Madame Guillotine.
