Listen Later

Barnaby and Esme, two apprentices in the St. Nicholas Scriptorium, discover that the ceremonial ink and wax seals are failing due to the same resonance drain affecting other parts of Silver Creek. The adhesive is weak and the sealing flame burns the wrong color. They deduce that the failure is linked to an unstable heat source regulated by an acoustic valve in the water conduit, referencing the Solstice Chime Key as the necessary regulator. By using a non-conductive reed card to generate a counter-frequency, they unlock the case holding the Whispering Quill, a special artifact that instantly stabilizes their station. Upon opening the case, they find a vellum map showing the water conduits tied to the acoustic valve system, confirming that the solution to structural stability involves restoring the missing chime frequencies. This directs their focus toward the Great Clock Tower area where other apprentices are seeking acoustic artifacts.
