Scroll 2
What can you build with everything that remains?
In the second Scroll of The Scrolls of Reflection, Zaib Shamsi continues the two-part Initiation by exploring what happens after a major chapter of life ends — and the process of beginning to build again.
Following his transition from more than five years in Applied Medical Sciences and Healthcare into Biomedical Engineering, Zaib reflects on moving to Liverpool, entering a completely different academic environment and discovering a new way of understanding problems through engineering, experimentation, data and systems thinking.
What happens to everything we learned when our direction changes? Does starting again mean starting from zero? Can failure become information rather than identity? And what happens when the original blueprint for our lives no longer fits the circumstances we find ourselves in?
This is a reflection on reconstruction, failure, knowledge, identity and the difference between being trapped by the past and being informed by it.
It explores an idea that would become central to The Scrolls of Reflection: changing direction does not erase the journey that came before it. The experiences, mistakes, knowledge and perspective accumulated along the way can become part of whatever we build next.
Scars become blueprints, and the things we stay silent about are given a voice.
Initiation: Part I began with the scar.Initiation:
Part II begins with what remains.
And from what remains, we build again.
What if starting again does not mean starting from zero?
