An interview with Garry Disher has been on my Wishlist for so long so I am thrilled I got the chance to speak to him. Garry has written more than 50 books across different genres but he’s best known for his searing crime fiction. Garry was writing crime set in Australia for decades, long before rural or outback noir became popular or had the status that it does now. My entry into Garry’s writing was the brilliant Bitter Wash Road, which introduced us to his character Constable Paul Hirschausen, a cop exiled to a rural community where he’s an outsider. There’s three books in the Hirsch series and Garry’s currently working on the next one. His new book The Way it is Now introduces us to cop Charlie Deravin who is back in his coastal country hometown where the mystery of his mother’s disappearance 20 years before still hangs heavily. The Way it is Now is published by Text Publishing.
