Follows the transformation of Mary Lennox, a sour and neglected orphan sent from India to live at her uncle’s gloomy English estate. Upon arriving at Misselthwaite Manor, Mary discovers a hidden garden that has been locked for a decade and meets her sickly, hidden cousin, Colin Craven. Aided by a local boy named Dickon, who possesses a mystical connection to nature, the children secretly restore the garden and find that the fresh air and manual labor heal their spirits. As the flora blooms, Colin’s health miraculously improves, and he eventually learns to walk, shedding his identity as a shut-in. The story concludes with the emotional return of Mr. Craven, who is overjoyed to find his son healthy and the family’s legacy of grief replaced by the magic of growth.
