Left behind in a cold and dark burrow, a baby rabbit named Tumkit is destined to die of starvation until Vella, a shrewd and fearless mockingbird, discovers Tumkit and brings him a magic berry. The berry comes from a solitary bush that grows in a cave near the top of Laurel Mountain. Vella warns Tumkit the bush is struggling to survive, and unless they act quickly the supernatural powers of its berries will be lost forever. Tumkit, Vella, and Sully, a one-year-old buck and loyal friend to Vella, travel up the steep mountain in a desperate attempt to save the bush. Their quest takes a dangerous turn when they encounter Borwong, and angry and heartless grizzly bear who refuses to allow anyone on his mountain.

A beautiful book for children.
I don't usually read children's books, but took a chance on this book by Billy Garrett. I was enchanted by the characters that seemed so human-like in nature. Go on an adventure with Tumkit, a baby rabbit, and the rest of the group of animals that help each other discover strengths and limitations in their lives. Just like in our own lives. You can't help but fall in love with Tumkit as he adventures out of his home to a whole new world of excitement and danger. I recommend this book for children up to 12. You can buy it and read it to the younger ones.
Adorable Story and Amazing Message
My daughter, who is 10 and a very avid reader, absolutely loved this book because of all of the adventures with the characters and the story of the rabbit (Tumkit) overcoming obstacles found in the forest. This book embodies courage, teamwork, friendship and love. My daughter could not stop reading this beautiful book and I loved the life lessons and entertainment it provided to her. Great message!!
Inspiring!!
A friend of mine told me about this great read for kids and I had to check it out for my son. I was hooked from the start with the beautiful visual picture Garrett paints readers in this story of the runt overcoming all obstacles. We enjoyed reading the adventure together and will definitely read it again and again. Definitely recommend to everyone young and old!!

This book was ordered by my nephew on his kindle and he absolutely loves it! I am now ordering him the paperback as well as 4 extra and one for myself! Very well written and illustrated! Your kids will love it for summer reading!
interesting story
wonderful choice of names. good illustrations. It's the sort of book that has to be read to the child while he is too young to be playing with his own iPad. interesting plot. Not really sure if there is a moral here except maybe to stay away from grizzlies. Maybe I'm just too old to appreciate this level of literature and have no children in the right age group to read it to.
