The Secret of Kells is a 2009 animated movie about the making of the famous Book of Kells. The animation in the movie is visually stunning.

The movie tells the story of Brendan, a young boy living in an abbey under the watchful eye of his uncle the Abbot Cellach. Brendan longs to learn the art of illumination from the monks at the monastery, and when Brother Aiden arrives (along with his cat Pangur Bán) Brendan befriends him and agrees to help with the creation of the book.

Along the way, Brendan ventures outside the abbey walls to fetch materials for ink, meets a mysterious woodland fairy named Aisling, fights a deity of destruction and death, and has to contend with a Viking invasion.
