Great character developement!
3.5 solid stars!
THE STORY: Dr. Nari Yoon has spent the past 10 years mourning her late husband, the love of her life. Despite her mass amount of hook- ups and endless retail therapy, her heart continues to be with her late husband.
Dr. Lucas Tucker is her colleague and had been infatuated with Nari for awhile. An alcohol induced evening of lust is shared between the two, resulting in a fractured relationship that neither is fully willing to commit to.
The story explores each of their broken pasts, and how two individuals can open up their minds and hearts to forge something new and unexpected.
MY THOUGHTS: Deeply shattered Nari has me immediately intrigued. She lost her life love long ago, yet still feels the stifling grief day after day. Her ways of living with this sorrow are completely unhealthy and tragic. While the norm for such a situation would be retreating from social situations, Nari has chosen the opposite. She overindulges in careless acts, only heightening her sadness. Which, is all fine and dandy if it's only herself involved...
*Enter Lucas Tucker*
Lucas is sweet and gentle and kind. He wants nothing more than Nari's happiness, and to see her stop her heedless ways of living. The similarities, yet complete irony, of what each face from their past would be enough to drive two people apart for good- yet, the two forge ahead in their search for healing and happiness. Their personal growth is in large part, a direct reflection of leaning on each other for support when they needed it the most.
NOT that it came easily. The whole story was a back and forth of angst and frustration. For Lucas AND me. Nari drove me stinking batty! I mean, I know she's been through unimaginable tragedy, but come on!! First of all, the whole 'secret widow' and 'secret pregnancy' act was totally unnecessary and ridiculous. Why she felt the need to hide all this information is STILL beyond me, and it was the basis for the whole book! In short, this is not a faced paced book. I enjoyed the drawn out explanations at the beginning of the story, because that's what shaped my understanding of the extent of Nari's grief. But, it kept going and kept going... and seemed to stall. The whole time I'm wondering how the stink Lucas can stay with her and her whiny, exasperating ways.
