The cultural version of Christmas characterized by lights, trees, ornaments, and the manger scene is only six inches deep, and is not the biblical picture of Christmas. The bible paints altogether a different scene, one where the incarnation is more violent than we realize. For the Son of Man to be stripped of his beauty, wealth, and His omnipotent power only to be cast into disfigurement, poverty, and utter weakness is sobering and enough to humble anyone who calls Him Lord. After all, He came in the form of a babe to serve you.
