The Seven Hermetic Principles

Listen Later

The 7 Hermetic Principles originated from a branch of philosophy called Hermeticism that emerged in around 1st century A.D. Hermeticism comes from the name Hermes Trismegistus, the mysterious teacher and wise philosopher who was believed to be the reincarnation of both Thoth, an Egyptian god of wisdom and writing and Mercury, the Greek god who rules the realms of the mind.

We don't actually know if Hermes existed. Still, his teachings remained and were passed on through word of mouth until the 20th century when the 7 Principles were recorded into a book called "Kybalion". Who wrote the "Kybalion" is also unknown. It was published under the ominous name "the Three Initiates". With so much uncertainty around the 7 Principles, it is easy to dismiss them as fiction or a reminiscence of some ancient cult, but it's hard to ignore that some of these rings are a little bit true. Maybe that's why they are sometimes called the 7 Universal Laws. At least to me.
