The Shadow: What Jung Said About it - Part 2 - Psychology of the Unconscious
What is the 'Shadow'? A trendy term that originates with psychologist Carl Jung. You might have often heard it discussed in psychological and spiritual content along with the need to do 'shadow work' or 'integrate the shadow.'
Like many psychological concepts, Jung's thesis around the shadow is on one hand often misunderstood, and on the other also contains some contradictions of its own. Referring to what the original thinkers said on tricky concepts like the shadow is generally very elucidating. And it also helps us understand how we can apply and take further the ideas into our own process of becoming.
In the pursuit of self-knowledge, understanding the shadow is nonetheless a vital exercise, as well as working with the aspects of our own personality that have necessarily been left behind. It also involves coming to terms with collective shadow, and what Jung described as 'absolute evil.'
To that end, in this episode we will delve into what Carl Jung himself wrote about the shadow. Jung said many things about it, but in this episode we'll focus just on one of his earliest works mentioning the shadow, the essay The Psychology of the Unconscious.
