The Shakespeare Actor - When Ambition Turns Deadly

Listen Later

This Gunsmoke episode explores the dark intersection of ambition, rejection, and desperation on the Kansas frontier. When Marshal Matt Dillon discovers a dying man in actor Irving Henry's wagon, a tragic tale unfolds. Henry, a classically trained student of Shakespeare whose unfortunate appearance relegated him to comic roles, murdered his mentor Sam Matchett in a desperate bid to finally play the heroic parts he believed he deserved. Trapped by his physical limitations and driven to desperation, Henry takes a widow and her children hostage in a tense standoff that can only end one way.
